Volunteers Needed!

Kalamazoo Communities In Schools seeks a wide range of volunteers to work at the Publishing Centers, located in 14 KPS elementary, middle, and high schools during the 2009-10 school year.  Publishing Center volunteers will help students edit their creative writing, and make the finished version into a bound book.  Volunteers should commit to a minimum of an hour and a half per week.  Volunteers can work directly with students at a school site, either during school or after school, or can type stories from home.  For more information, please contact Helen Walls at 337-1601 x212 or at hwalls@kcis.us.

Templates for Publishing Center Volunteer Typists:

If you would like to use a template to help you type the book, please use the link below to access a Microsoft Word document that will lead you though the process.  You can download the form directly onto your computer and use it each time.  Or you can make it your own by editing it to meet your needs.  Or you can create your own template.

This template contains three page formats - one with text on the bottom, one with text in the center, and one with text on the top.  The information you receive with the story will direct you which layout to use on every page of the story.

Type the child's story, print and return printed copy within 1 week to the Publishing Center inbox at the school's office (visit the KCIS locations page for school addresses).

If you have questions, please contact Helen Walls at hwalls@kcis.us (put Publishing Center in the subject box) or at 337-1601 x212.

Good luck and please accept our thanks in advance for all of your hard work!
