Welcome to Kalamazoo Communities In Schools Minimize

Kalamazoo Communities In Schools (KCIS) brings together major service providers, school officials, community volunteers, business leaders and other concerned citizens to meet  the various physical, social-emotional, and academic needs of students. Through its network of community partners, KCIS strives to help children and youth successfully learn, stay in school and prepare for life. KCIS is an affiliate of the largest national "stay-in-school" organization - Communities In Schools - which has been selected by "Worth Magazine" as one of the nation's best charities for return on investment two years in a row.

Miller Auditorium Helps Gather Book Donations

On Sunday, October 26, Miller Auditorium helped KCIS gather books for a spring literacy event. Miller offered those attending the 3:00 performance of The Magic Treehouse, The Musical the opportunity to donate new books to KCIS. All those who donated were given a $5 gift certificate to another children’s performance. KCIS received 50 books, thanks to the help of Miller Auditorium and its generous patrons!

All donated books will be used by KCIS for our spring Bagels and Books event.  Bagels and Books connects hundreds of community volunteers with elementary school students.  The students select a book of their choice, and read it out loud with a volunteer.  After the event, the students get to keep the books they read, and the volunteers and students share a snack of bagels and cream cheese.  For more information, please contact Coco Cook at 337-1601 x218 or ccook@kcis.us.
